Where should you go in Taiwan?
You'll likely start in Taipei, the jam-packed capital—museums, shrines, and temples abound. And dining here is an experience of its own, with a stunning selection of eateries, teahouses, and buzzing night markets. North of Taipei, you'll find national parks with dramatic terrain and weather. Hiking in Yangmingshan National Park and soaking in the hot springs of Beitou are highlights. Don't miss the harbor city of Keelung, with its ancient fortresses and the country's biggest annual Ghost Festival. Central Taiwan is as scenic as it gets—bask in the views of Yushan, northeast Asia’s tallest peak, and make a stop at Sun Moon Lake. When is the best time to visit?
Spring and fall bring the most pleasant temperatures (70s and low 80s Fahrenheit), and you'll have few other travelers to contend with. July and August are considered "high season" for tourism, so skip these months to avoid the peak summer crowds, heat, and humidity. Winters are mild, with average temps in the low 60s Fahrenheit—and if you do get cold, there are over 100 natural hot springs to enjoy, many in idyllic mountain surroundings. 

How many days do you need?
One week is a great amount of time to spend in Taiwan. In seven days, you can sample street food in Taipei, ride a gondola across Sun Moon Lake, explore the natural charm of the Yilan countryside, and more. Travelers with two weeks can make it a full grand tour, adding a visit to Taroko Gorge National Park, scenic stops along the east coast, and the mountains of the Alishan region.
