Milk Factory, Höfn Hotels
Former dairy turned into a simple hotel with basic rooms, split-level family options, and a breakfast area
Milk Factory provides a straightforward and pleasant accommodation option located just a short distance from Höfn. Höfn, a charming fishing town situated on a peninsula, lies nestled just below the magnificent Vatnajökull ice cap, an impressive natural wonder recognized as the second largest ice cap in all of Europe. Reaching the heart of Höfn is incredibly convenient, whether you prefer a leisurely 15-minute walk or a quick 2-minute drive. Once there, you’ll discover a delightful array of high-quality restaurants catering to various tastes and preferences. For those with a penchant for fresh seafood, Höfn is an absolute paradise. And if your travels bring you to this region in the month of July, be sure to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the renowned lobster festival, a celebration of local cuisine and culture.
The Milk Factory also grants easy and convenient access to some of southeast Iceland’s most prominent and breathtaking attractions. The mesmerizing diamond beach of Jökulsárlón, a spectacle of ice and sand, is a little over an hour’s journey away. Similarly, the captivating Skaftafell nature reserve, a haven of natural beauty and diverse landscapes, is located just under two hours away from your comfortable base at Milk Factory.
Originally a bustling dairy, this building has been transformed into a cozy and intimate hotel, offering approximately 15 rooms thoughtfully equipped with either twin beds, comfortable double beds, or a combination of both to suit your specific needs. For families seeking more space, the split-level family rooms provide ample accommodation, comfortably sleeping up to four individuals with a configuration of two twin beds and a queen-sized bed.
Each of the rooms features a simple and uncluttered design, adorned with soothing neutral tones and furnished with minimal furniture, creating a calming and relaxing ambiance. Depending on the room you choose, you may be treated to stunning mountain views. And if you’re particularly fortunate, you might even catch a glimpse of the Icelandic horses gracefully galloping through the nearby fields, adding a touch of local charm to your stay. The bathrooms are designed with a touch of modern style, featuring pristine white tiles and refreshing rainfall shower heads, providing a spa-like experience. The primary communal space is the breakfast area, where you can start your day with a hearty meal. Furthermore, the close proximity of the center of Höfn ensures that you will never be short of diverse and enticing dining options during your stay.

Choosing the right time to visit Iceland depends on what you would like to see and do. To see the Northern Lights, visit in winter—and thus brave ultra-short days and brisk weather. If your goal is to hike, road trip, and otherwise explore outdoors, the best times are late spring and early fall. Summer months bring great weather and long days, but also attract big tourist crowds.
Where should I go in Iceland?
Iceland has much more to offer than the popular (and crowded) Golden Circle and South Coast areas. We highly recommend exploring Iceland’s remote regions such as Snaefellsnes Peninsula, the Westfjords, Lake Myvatn, and the East Fjords. See our recommended tours & itineraries to get ideas on how to plan your trip to Iceland.
How many days do I need?
You can have an epic Iceland experience when you spend at least 5 days. Shorter trips are possible but won’t give you enough time to explore beyond the Reykjavik area and the western section of the South Coast. With 8 days or more, you can complete the famous Ring Road and see sights that most tourists miss, like Godafoss Waterfall, the unique volcanic hotspots surrounding Lake Myvatn, and the Westfjords.
Getting around in Iceland
Most travelers drive themselves in Iceland during the summer season (Mid-April to November), and some opt for small group or guided tours during the winter season when weather, wind, and limited daylight can make driving more difficult. The Ring Road is Iceland's iconic multi-day road trip (typically 7-10 days), with many opportunities to extend further to more remote areas such as the highlands, the Westfjords, and northern coast.
