Harbour Inn Guesthouse, Westfjords Hotels
Basic and quaint family-run hotel with simple yet modern rooms and studios
Harbour Inn Guesthouse offers a charming and comfortable stay nestled in the heart of Bíldudalur, a picturesque fishing village. This delightful village is situated on the breathtaking Arnarfjörður fjord, a body of water steeped in local folklore and renowned for its tales of numerous sea monsters. Imagine yourself immersed in the captivating legends of the deep! A short, leisurely stroll of just five minutes will bring you to the fascinating Icelandic Sea Monster Museum, where you can delve deeper into the mysteries and learn all about the area’s captivating legends and mythical creatures. This peninsula, after all, is arguably the most mythical and mystical region in all of Iceland, making it a truly unique destination.
The Westfjords, a more secluded and less travelled area of Iceland, promises unparalleled natural beauty and tranquility. The drive from Reykjavík to this haven is approximately 5.5 hours, making Harbour Inn Guesthouse an ideal retreat for travelers seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in the country’s raw, intense natural beauty. A must-see attraction in the area is the awe-inspiring Dynjandi waterfall, a magnificent cascade located approximately an hour and 15 minutes away from the guesthouse.
Harbour Inn Guesthouse is a family-run establishment offering a variety of accommodation options. Guests can choose from a selection of comfortable double and single rooms, with options for both private and shared bathrooms, catering to different preferences and budgets. For those seeking a more self-contained experience, the guesthouse also features two larger self-service studios. The interior design style is modern and stylish, tastefully blending contemporary aesthetics with traditional Icelandic touches, such as the use of locally sourced textiles and cozy blankets.
For added privacy and convenience, consider booking a room with its own en-suite bathroom. The smaller studio is perfectly suited for couples or solo travelers, accommodating up to two guests comfortably. The larger studio is more spacious and can comfortably sleep six to seven guests, boasting two double beds, a single bed, and a fun and practical bunk bed. This larger studio also includes a comfortable small seating area, a convenient kitchenette for preparing light meals, and a dining table where guests can enjoy their meals together. While Harbour Inn Guesthouse itself does not have an on-site restaurant, guests can easily find delicious meals at one of the few local restaurants in Bíldudalur village. Be sure to check opening hours, as some establishments may be open year-round, providing options even during the quieter seasons.

Choosing the right time to visit Iceland depends on what you would like to see and do. To see the Northern Lights, visit in winter—and thus brave ultra-short days and brisk weather. If your goal is to hike, road trip, and otherwise explore outdoors, the best times are late spring and early fall. Summer months bring great weather and long days, but also attract big tourist crowds.
Where should I go in Iceland?
Iceland has much more to offer than the popular (and crowded) Golden Circle and South Coast areas. We highly recommend exploring Iceland’s remote regions such as Snaefellsnes Peninsula, the Westfjords, Lake Myvatn, and the East Fjords. See our recommended tours & itineraries to get ideas on how to plan your trip to Iceland.
How many days do I need?
You can have an epic Iceland experience when you spend at least 5 days. Shorter trips are possible but won’t give you enough time to explore beyond the Reykjavik area and the western section of the South Coast. With 8 days or more, you can complete the famous Ring Road and see sights that most tourists miss, like Godafoss Waterfall, the unique volcanic hotspots surrounding Lake Myvatn, and the Westfjords.
Getting around in Iceland
Most travelers drive themselves in Iceland during the summer season (Mid-April to November), and some opt for small group or guided tours during the winter season when weather, wind, and limited daylight can make driving more difficult. The Ring Road is Iceland's iconic multi-day road trip (typically 7-10 days), with many opportunities to extend further to more remote areas such as the highlands, the Westfjords, and northern coast.
