Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you will traverse through farmland until you reach the invigorating cascades of the waterfall. Take a moment to capture some essential photos before hopping into a vehicle and ascending the mountain road to the Stegastein viewpoint, where breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding fjord and mountains await. This excursion is perfect for travelers who crave a personal and immersive experience in Norway’s remarkable fjord landscapes.
Highlights of this adventure include a relaxing 15-minute drive from Flåm to Aurland, a hike through a captivating forest to witness the Turli Waterfall, marveling at sweeping fjord views from the Stegastein viewpoint, situated 2,132 feet above sea level, and enjoying entertaining tales of local history, wildlife, and more from your lively guide.
Before you embark on this journey, here are a few things to know: the duration of the experience is approximately 3 hours, and it is recommended for individuals aged 6 years and above. This excursion is conducted in small groups to ensure a more personalized experience.
Your adventure commences at Flåm’s inner harbor, where you will rendezvous with your group and embark on a picturesque 15-minute drive to Aurland with your experienced guide. The hike, spanning 3 miles (5 km), is suitable for adults and children over six, although a fair level of fitness is required due to an uphill stretch. As you set off from an organic agricultural school in Aurland, you will follow an old farm path towards Turlifossen, a hidden waterfall nestled in a forest setting. Your friendly guide will provide insights into the region’s wildlife and history along the way.
Take a brief respite near the waterfall to capture some photos and feel the refreshing mist from the cascades. Then, continue your ascent up the mountainside until you reach a small plateau, offering fantastic views of the fjord below. After a short break, reunite with your vehicle and journey up the renowned Aurlandsfjellet, also known as the “Snow Road,” to reach the Stegastein viewpoint.
As you walk along the viewpoint that extends 98 feet (30 m) from the mountain, you will experience the sensation of hovering over the pristine fjord, 2,132 feet (650 m) below. Capture memorable photos before returning to the trailhead and making your way back to Flåm. Please note that the schedule may be subject to change based on weather and trail conditions.
