The Skogar Museum
Located just off the Ring Road in Iceland’s South Coast is the Skogar Museum. It is a half-hour drive from Vík or a 2-hour drive from Reykjavík. This cultural heritage collection offers an interactive experience with the country’s past. Amongst three different museums, you’ll find over 18,000 regional artifacts uniquely displayed in six historical buildings (turf houses).
The three exhibitions that make up the Skogar Museum are the folk, technical, and open-air museums. The open-air museum includes examples of several periods of Icelandic architecture. For example, you can view an old farmhouse, cattle shed, schoolhouse, and church, to name a few. There are several displays in the folk museum, including one on agriculture, fisheries, crafts, and natural history.
