The Caldera Hike from Fira to Oia
Hike one of the prettiest trails on the Greek islands along the edge of Santorini’s caldera between Fira and Oia
Today presents a unique opportunity to embark on a 4.5-hour guided trekking tour along the rim of Santorini’s famous volcanic caldera. This approximately 6-mile journey follows the edge of the volcano that inspired the myth of Atlantis, the fabled civilization lost beneath the sea. As you traverse this stunning route, you’ll uncover stories of ancient merchants, farmers, and sailors who once traveled these paths.
Commencing in Fira, the island’s capital, you’ll wander through the traditional whitewashed village perched dramatically along the caldera cliff. Your ultimate destination is Oia, another picturesque whitewashed village on the caldera rim. Along the way, you’ll pause in Firostefani, Imerovigli, and the outskirts of Oia to immerse yourself in local customs and traditions. Traverse the rugged volcanic terrain on a moderately challenging path, soaking in panoramic views of vineyards and terraced gardens.
Keep in mind that this trail is rated as moderate to difficult, featuring numerous steps and rough terrain. Participants must possess a good level of fitness. Notify your travel specialist of any dietary restrictions or allergies. The tour kicks off in the morning to avoid crowds and heat, concluding around lunchtime.
