Soap Making Workshop in Crete
Familiarize yourself with a Cretan household staple on a half-day private tour and tasting at an organic olive oil mill and then an interactive soap making workshop ideal for families.
Overview
The tour starts outside in the olive grove, where you’ll learn about harvesting the olives and the importance of timing throughout the process. Next, you’ll head inside into the mill’s factory, where you’ll learn how to extract the oil from the plant and how the seed becomes edible. With the help of your expert, using stones and sea salt, prepare your own ‘table-olives’ (tsakistes, xidates).
After tasting, craft your own soap with Crete’s olive oil. Using essences from the wild herbs of Crete and with the help of your local expert, who is a passionate woman specializing in the art of soap and cosmetics, learn the traditional cold process soap making method as you shape your olive oil soap base. You choose what you want to include in your soap and take it home with you as a souvenir.
After this great hands-on experience, it’s time to prepare the fastest traditional ‘meal’ of the Cretan people, the so called Dakos.
This family-friendly tour is suitable for children over 5 years old.
