Discover the local vibe of Spain’s capital, Madrid, by immersing yourself in its art, architecture, and culinary scene. This guided walk will take you through the neighborhoods of El Centro, Lavapiés, La Latina, Austrias, and Sol, covering about 4.4 miles with a minimum of 19 stops, including two food-related ones. The route can take 3-5 hours, so make sure to wear comfortable footwear and clothing. Upon booking, you’ll receive access to a detailed map and step-by-step instructions.
Highlights of the tour include grabbing churros, enjoying pan con tomates in a cozy café, shopping for ceramics, appreciating a Goya fresco, discovering hidden architectural gems, and exploring 18th-century gardens.
Before you go, note that the duration of the tour is 4 hours, recommended for ages 14 and up, and is self-guided.
The journey begins in La Latina, where you’ll indulge in churros con chocolate and admire renowned Spanish paintings. As you move south to Lavapiés, you’ll encounter street art and visit a former church-turned-library. Further along, you’ll explore a tobacco factory with murals and a historical landmark with religious frescoes by Goya.
Continuing on, you’ll pass through plazas, enjoy authentic snacks at a café, and explore Austrias with its ancient walls and gardens. The walk concludes in Puerta del Sol with a visit to a talavera shop, where you can admire colorful ceramics by Spanish artisans.
