Know Before You Go
Most of the larger gardens, like Boboli and the Rose Garden, are located south of the Arno River. Consider picking up snacks from a local market for a picnic.
What You’ll Do
Start your nature walk by crossing Ponte Vecchio to the Boboli Gardens behind Pitti Palace. Wander through this vast open-air museum filled with classical statues, fountains, and hidden corners. Next, head uphill to Piazzale Michelangelo for panoramic views, and visit the nearby Rose Garden featuring hundreds of floral varieties and a Japanese garden. If visiting in late April or May, don’t miss the Iris Garden and its rare collection of irises.
