Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Boat Tour
Located next to Iceland’s expansive Vatnajökull National Park is the renowned Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, famous for its breathtaking scenery, floating icebergs, and diverse wildlife. The lagoon is connected to two other Icelandic glaciers, Breiðamerkurjökull and Vatnajökull, which is the largest ice cap in Europe. Eventually, the lagoon’s waters flow onto Diamond Beach, a stunning black-sand beach, before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. Situated between the towns of Hof and Höfn, the lagoon can be found along Iceland’s popular Ring Road.
Visitors can embark on an exhilarating and picturesque boat trip on the lagoon, sailing amidst gigantic, electric-blue icebergs while taking in the stunning views of Jökulsárlón. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as Arctic Terns, Skuas, and the numerous seals that thrive on the lagoon’s fish population. You will also gain insight into the lagoon’s history, as it was formed in the 20th century as a result of rising temperatures. Scientists predict that Jökulsárlón will eventually evolve into a larger, deeper fjord.
