Hike the Queen’s Route in Vesterålen
Embark on a breathtaking hike along the renowned Queen’s Route near the charming fishing village of Stø on the picturesque Vesterålen Islands. This moderate trek, known as Dronningruta or the Queen’s Route, offers stunning views of the coastline as you traverse bridges and wind through fjords and inlets. The trail leads you over the mountain between Stø and the historic fishing village of Nyksund, located in the northern part of Langøya, Norway’s third-largest island. Named in honor of Queen Sonja, who visited the island in 1994, the route has a rich history and was reportedly used by the midwife of Stø on her way to Nyksund to assist with births. The route now consists of two well-marked hiking trails, running along the ocean’s edge and providing a truly beautiful walking experience.
After your hike, consider taking a leisurely late afternoon drive on the National Tourist Route along the west coast of Andøya. This scenic route offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the region’s coastline and its charming fishing villages, complete with colorful wooden houses. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Norway’s natural landscapes and coastal communities.
