Hike the Berber Villages in Toubkal National Park
Overview
Your journey into the national park begins in the charming Berber village of Imlil, nestled at an elevation of 5,700 feet (1,740 meters). This is where the hike begins—leave your vehicle behind and sip a refreshing cup of mint tea before setting off on a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) trek through the mountains.
Along the way, you’ll pass through small villages such as Armed and Sidi Chamharouch, as well as the beautiful Assif Ait Maizane Valley. One highlight is a scenic waterfall beside a gentle stream, where you can stop and soak in the view.
Eventually, you’ll find the perfect picnic spot under the trees, where you can relax with a spectacular panorama of Mt. Toubkal—the highest mountain in North Africa, standing at 13,600 feet (4,167 meters). This experience combines adventure, natural beauty, and a deeper understanding of Morocco’s mountainous Berber culture.
