Named “bear mountain” in Croatian, Medvednica is located just north of Zagreb and offers a range of outdoor activities. Built in the 13th century after the Tartar invasion, Medvedgrad is a well-preserved fortress with double walls, moats, guard towers, water tanks, a chapel, and palaces.
