What you’ll do
Embark on your adventure in the morning with a pickup from Puerto Natales. Your guide will take you on a scenic drive to Sarmiento Lake, where you’ll embark on a hike to discover captivating 6,000-year-old cave paintings created by the region’s early inhabitants. Continue to the serene Blanquillos Lagoon, a haven for various endemic bird species such as the caiquénes (“upland geese”) and black-necked swans.
Enjoy a leisurely two-hour hike to the Amarga Lagoon gate, the main park entrance. Take a moment to relax and appreciate the tranquility of the surroundings before heading to the Paine Waterfall for a delightful lunch with a view of the iconic granite towers.
Next, explore the wildlife-rich Cañadón Macho, home to guanacos, gray foxes, condors, black-chested eagles, and possibly even a Puma! This immersive experience will provide insights into the park’s diverse ecosystems and abundant fauna. As the day draws to a close, return to your hotel after a 4-mile (6 km) hike rated as low difficulty, suitable for most fitness levels.
