What you’ll do
Embark on a day trip to the white village of Frigiliana, where you’ll relish a wine-tasting experience and a hike through Parque Natural de Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara, y Alhama. Initiate your excursion by rendezvousing with your guide in Málaga city center, where you’ll hop on a van for a 45-minute journey through Axarquia, a lush terrain adorned with avocado, mango, and custard-apple trees.
Upon reaching Frigiliana, saunter through this mountaintop settlement, celebrated for its Moorish Old Quarter, characterized by streets embellished with ceramic mosaics and vibrant flower pots. While navigating the narrow, Medieval pathways, your guide will impart knowledge about the town’s illustrious past and highlight landmarks like the 16th-century Renaissance palace El Ingenio, presently a sugar cane factory.
Continue your promenade to the summit of the village, bordering Parque Natural de Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara, y Alhama, home to some of the loftiest mountains in the Axarquia region. Follow an Arabic aqueduct alongside olive groves, with vistas of the Río Higuerón and the glistening Mediterranean Sea in the distance. Your guide will ensure ample time for you to pause, admire the panoramas, capture photographs, and explore the local flora and fauna.
While trekking through the Mediterranean woodland, you’ll encounter the vestiges of the 9th-century Arabic fortress, Castillo de Lizar, and additional breathtaking viewpoints. Eventually, the trail will lead you back to Frigiliana, where you’ll visit the town’s oldest vineyard for a tasting session. Subsequently, revel in free time to wander the village and peruse the market for an array of items, from luscious avocados to tropical mangoes. Conclude your day with a return transfer to Málaga, soaking in the vistas of the rustic landscape.
