What you’ll do
Embark on your culinary journey at Gastronomía Bilbao in the heart of the city, where a professional chef will greet you. Don your apron, grab a glass of wine, and listen as the chef introduces you to the world of Basque cuisine. You’ll be guided through the preparation of two or three starters, which may include chorizo cooked in cider and baked piquillo peppers sautéed with olive oil, garlic, and vinegar.
Moving on to the main courses, you’ll master the art of creating iconic regional dishes like marmitako (tuna stew with peppers), hearty Tolosa bean stew, and txuleta (rib steak) from grass-fed cows accompanied by Basque salad. Lastly, you’ll whip up a tantalizing dessert such as the renowned Basque French toast, torrijas, a centuries-old recipe featuring a blend of bread, milk, cinnamon, egg, and sugar.
Each participant will have their own cooking station equipped with fresh ingredients sourced locally. As you chop, dice, and sauté, enjoy drinks from the open bar and sample a range of local wines like Riojas, txakolis, or albariños, providing insight into the region’s rich wine heritage.
Upon completing the cooking session, gather in the private dining area with your group to relish the fruits of your labor. Delight in your three-course meal paired with additional local wines to accentuate the flavors, and engage in lively conversations with your fellow culinary enthusiasts. The dining experience includes a charcuterie board showcasing a variety of local specialties. As a memento, you’ll depart with a recipe card to recreate your Basque cooking escapade in your own kitchen.
