Perched above the city of Agadir, the Kasbah Oufella presents some of the most stunning panoramic views available in the region. Many visitors are surprised to learn that modern-day Agadir is largely a reconstruction; the original city suffered catastrophic destruction during the tragic Agadir Earthquake of 1960. Though the earthquake only measured 5.8 on the Richter scale, its shallow depth and location at the heart of the city resulted in severe devastation, leveling buildings and causing widespread loss of life. Nearly two-thirds of the city’s population were either killed or injured.

Among the few remaining relics of the old city is the outer wall of the historic Kasbah, which now serves as a powerful reminder of the city’s resilience. From this elevated spot, you can take in sweeping views of Agadir’s marina, its golden beach, and the rebuilt modern cityscape that rose from the ruins.
