The Verdon Gorges is a breathtaking river canyon located in southeast France, stretching 50 km (31 miles) and reaching depths of up to 700 meters (2,296 feet) in certain areas, making it the largest canyon in Europe. This natural wonder was created by the erosion of limestone plateaus in Haute Provence by the Verdon River. Visitors flock to this stunning destination for thrilling activities such as kayaking and canoeing along the river and Lake Sainte Croix, as well as canyoneering expeditions. Access to the Verdon Gorges is via the scenic and winding mountain road known as the “Route des Crêtes”, offering panoramic views of the gorge and its unique ecosystem, which includes magnificent species like the Fawn and Monk vultures.
Embark on a two-hour canyoneering adventure in one of the Verdon Gorges’ tributaries, a narrow and awe-inspiring gorge with mesmerizing rock formations. This adrenaline-pumping experience is filled with jumps, natural water slides, refreshing swimming breaks, and concludes with a thrilling abseiling descent of 10 meters (98 feet) along a rock face. Participants must be at least 12 years old and weigh over 45kg to join in on the fun, as this activity is not for the faint of heart. Younger visitors who do not meet the age requirements can opt for an aquatic hike instead, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty and excitement of the Verdon Gorges.
