What you’ll do:
Your evening starts when you meet your guide in front of Banco Santander near Puente de Triana (Triana Bridge) to get an introduction to the neighborhood. Triana lies across the Río Guadalquivir from Seville’s Casco Antiguo (Old Town) and is well-known for producing some of Spain’s finest flamenco dancers and bullfighters. Since the area used to be the Gitano Quarter until the 1950s, there are countless tablaos (flamenco venues) where you can experience authentic, intimate flamenco performances until late at night.
Start exploring at the Mercado de Triana, the buzzing local market that includes a cookery school, a brewery, and a hairdresser, as well as plentiful fresh produce stalls. Witness daily life unfold and follow your guide through the market, stopping at some of the barrio’s famous monuments. Triana is also where locals love to ir de tapas (go out for tapas), and you’ll visit three to four of the area’s best bars and bodegas, from energetic eateries to hushed hideaways. Savor at least four different tapas dishes, from traditional offerings to plates with a modern twist, while your guide explains their ingredients and history.
You might try cazon (marinated dogfish), salmorejo (cold, creamy soup), or carrilladas (braised pork cheek), as well as palmeritas de chocolate (chocolate-covered pastries) or tocino de cielo (caramel dessert) for afters. You’ll also indulge in four drinks, including some of the region’s best wines, sherries, and beers, to wash down your food. Finally, you’ll stroll back to Puente de Triana and say goodbye to your guide, feeling confident about what to order for the rest of your trip. Perhaps saunter along the river or head to a tablao for a live flamenco show to end the evening.
