Join a local grandmother to learn the art of Cretan cooking, starting with picking fresh ingredients from the garden and gathering around the outdoor kitchen shaded by olive and avocado trees. Together, you’ll prepare six different types of Cretan dishes, including dolmades, tzatziki, and a mouthwatering traditional lamb dish roasted in a wood-fired oven. After the cooking session, sit down at the family table to enjoy the fruits of your labor, accompanied by local wines and engaging conversations about island life.
Highlights of this experience include mastering the delicate skill of rolling grape leaves, gathering herbs from the garden for stuffed vegetables, and savoring a relaxed meal in a charming setting. The duration of the experience is 4 hours, suitable for all ages, and limited to a group of 20 people or less. Lunch is included in the package, providing you with an authentic taste of Cretan cuisine.
Your day begins in a serene village south of Chania, where you’ll be warmly welcomed into a family-owned home by your hospitable host. Enjoy some refreshments like juice, Greek coffee, and traditional biscuits before diving into the cooking class. As the lamb slowly roasts in the stone oven, you’ll learn about its historical significance and assist in gathering fresh herbs and produce from the garden.
During the hands-on session, you’ll create a variety of dishes, from stuffed vegetables to traditional pies filled with cheese and wild greens. Appetizers like tzatziki, dakos, and Cretan salad will also be on the menu. Sit down with your host’s family members at the garden table to enjoy the feast you’ve prepared, complete with generous servings of local wine. End the meal with a sweet dessert and coffee, leaving with new cooking skills and cherished family recipes.
The experience is available daily at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, ensuring flexibility in planning your visit. Included in the package are a cooking class with a local, all necessary ingredients and equipment, and a delicious lunch paired with local wine.
