Highlights of this tour include the opportunity to capture breathtaking photos of the auroras with the help of expert photography tips, exploring scenic spots in Tromsø and possibly venturing into Finland for optimal viewing, and cozying up by a campfire under the mesmerizing lights of the Arctic sky.
Before setting off, be aware that the duration of the tour is 10 hours and is suitable for all ages. The group size is limited to a small group of 13 people or less, ensuring an intimate experience. Additionally, dinner is included in the package for your convenience.
The adventure begins with a pick-up in Tromsø in the early evening, where you’ll meet your guide and embark on a comfortable minibus journey to find the clearest skies. Depending on weather conditions, the expedition may take you to the coast around Tromsø or even to Finland. Throughout the drive, knowledgeable guides will lead you through stunning landscapes to prime locations for witnessing the aurora borealis. Upon reaching the optimal spot, you’ll set up camp and prepare for an evening of celestial marvels.
Your team will provide warm suits and snow boots to keep you snug in the cold. While awaiting the appearance of the northern lights, you can enjoy a hot meal and drinks by the campfire. If the lights grace the sky, the team will capture high-quality images of the phenomenon and share them with you the following day. If you bring your camera, they’ll offer tips to enhance your own photos of the lights and the surroundings. Remember, the auroras are a natural wonder that can vary in intensity, so patience is key.
This experience is for those ready to embark on a true chase, often involving long drives and late returns. However, the payoff is a high success rate of spotting clear skies and witnessing the auroras. Even in cloudy weather in Tromsø, the team adeptly navigates to nearby microclimates where clear skies are more probable. Rest assured, the adventure will proceed unless road conditions are unsafe, as challenging nights often offer the best displays of the lights.
The tour operates daily with a start time of 5:45 pm, providing ample opportunities to witness the magical northern lights. Included in the package are roundtrip minibus transportation with WiFi, a knowledgeable guide, winter attire and snow boots (subject to availability), Manfrotto tripods, a warm meal, hot drinks, and photos from the tour to commemorate your unforgettable experience.
